Stretch width of objects in vertical layout group

Is it possible to stretch the width of an object in a vertical layout group? I am unable to use the stretch preset because the vertical layout group locks the anchors. I have tried with "Child Controls Size: Width" and "Child Force Expand: Width" both checked and unchecked.
