Question by zaczacattack · Mar 05, 2015 at 10:53 AM · unity 5lightingnoobemissive

Noob question - why isn't my emissive surfacce working?

So I have an environment modeled out with the standard shader applied, and decided to experiment with the new emissive surfaces to light it. I have made a pink sphere and am playing with the emission value in its material using the standard shader, but no light is emitted? it only affects the sphere.

I have been watching the tutorial videos and can't seem to work out what I'm doing wrong.

Did you click the lightbulb in the toolbar of the Scene view?

Make the emitting object and the objects you want to be lighted static and you should see the emitted light show up in lightmaps. That works kind of for me at least. Still messing around with it though with limited success. I get some weird displacement of the light in some cases but it works.

-edit- Oh and you might have to use very high intensity. Seems to be connected to the size of the surface emitting the light.

Thanks, I had assumed the emissive lighting was real time, didn't realise I had to bake a lightmap :) cheers.
