Why does the asset store slows down all of Unity?

For some strange reason the asset store (on top of taking forever to load) slows down all of unity to the point that I can't actually exit out of anything. The asset store loading has nothing to do with my network (I checked many MANY times).

When the store page finishes loading I can move the windows around just fine but during the 15 mins it takes to load a page unity is basically frozen solid.

Why does this happen?
