How to apply any animation to any character?

This may sound stupid but Im very new to unity and my Question is:

For example if I download this character from the asset store: Skull

And after that if I download this animations from here: Attack Animations

Could I use this animations on my character? All I have to do would be to create an Animation Controller on my Character and add the animation and create a transition to finally trigger the animation? Would that work?

Or how do I know which Animations from Stores can be applied to the characters I download from stores?

Also could I create new Animations for this character like the skull by myself? So in fact just extend the animations available from this character? This would my Plan B if I cant put all Animations on this character.
