Question by cj31387 · Aug 02, 2014 at 09:11 AM · editorvisualstudio

How to load VS 2013 Pro project from unity?

I have visual studio 2013 pro. One of the main advantages I've read is it automatically opens the project in vs 2013 when you double click a script. I set my editor path to one of the VS exes in unity. But it doesn't load the project automatically when I double click a script. It loads mono development instead. It only loads the script if i manually open the project first. But it is supposed to open the project also automatically.

How do I set Unity up to load vs 2013 automatically. Like I said I have vs 2013 pro. Which exe do i chose for external script editor and editor attaching where is this vs 2013 exe located. Thanks

I have always had the same problem, even after setting the editor to visual studio as ZenithCode suggests. It would always open MonoDevelop unless I would open the project first in VS or just generally had VS opened.

Luckily Microsoft has just released Visual Studio Tools for Unity (UnityVS) and that has solved all the problems. It is working like a charm now.

See http://blogs.msdn.com/b/visualstudio/archive/2014/07/29/visual-studio-tools-for-unity-1-9.aspx for the VS Tools.

Just go to Unity >Edit > Preferences > External tools and select the external script editor.

I had editor attaching checked which loaded mono, so That stopped that. But it still does the same thing, says visual studio is loading and pops up for a second but then closes visual studio or doesn't load.

If you installed Visual Studio 2013 Professional with default settings, this should be the path

 C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 12.0\Common7\IDE\devenv.exe

Follow ZenithCode instructions.
