White trees in a dark scene
Hi everyone,
I've been running into this issue for some time now.
Here is the problem: my billboarded trees have a grey/white outline. What this means is that because I have a game with a Day/Night cycle in it, the trees look "ghosthy" and unnatural at night.
Here are some screens exemplifying my problem:
Zoom of a tree in billboard state
We have already tried what this video explains: youtube video
And we have even tried with different tree packs besides our owns (Nature Pack for example). The problem remained.
I'm 100% open to any solutions this is a game breaking bug and really has to be fixed. Thanks for the help.
If you need some Higher res Images here they are (For bigger Screens this images make it easier to see the problem, also, watching them in fullscreen helps a lot):
Here are the textures used for the trees in the images:
Edit: added Higher res Images.
Edit2: added Tree Textures.
I really need an answer for this question, as well. Can anyone help me please?
I have no idea what you just said. Where is my code? I'm talking about the alpha blending of my trees and the leaves :s
This may be a silly suggestion, but have you tried modifying the Render Settings ? (no I didn't watch the video)
Done. :)
.. yeah, I fixed my problem by adding in fog. :/ I still wish I could see the billboard trees though..

I believe there are replacement shaders for tree billboards, check the forums. I think larsbertram posted them. It may be under his advanced terrain shader pack, it's free.
They fix the weird issue of tree billboards looking like ghost trees. I'd search for it, but the forum site is blocked here at work :( :( :( Hope that solves your issue!
Thanks for trying to help. I already tried that. Both versions even (V1 and V2). I imported the shader and restarted unity (which is something that is needed for the shader to start taking effect).

This looks like it's just the tree texture. Check the texture with the alpha channel disabled. I suspect you will see a tree against a blue sky or other pale background. The dark green foliage needs to extend beyond the feathered edge of the alpha shape, otherwise as the pixels get more transparent at the edge, they also get more pale.
The solution in the video is exactly right. If that didn't work, can you post the tree texture as a TGA or PNG? I can probably fix it for you.
I'm sorry for taking so long but these have been some busy days.
I tried so many things that no one on our $$anonymous$$m knows what else to try.
Here are the textures: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/12596502/Unity%20Questions/diffuse.png https://dl.dropbox.com/u/12596502/Unity%20Questions/normal_specular.png https://dl.dropbox.com/u/12596502/Unity%20Questions/shadow.png https://dl.dropbox.com/u/12596502/Unity%20Questions/translucency_gloss.png
We would be really gratefuls if someone found out what is causing the problem.

Here's a thread link to someone who has figured out the outline problem. Hope this helps. http://answers.unity3d.com/questions/336217/terrain-tree-billboard-have-bright-outline-against.html
