How to access files in Android OBB without WWW

I need to access the files inside an Android OBB. Unfortunately with my specific use case, it's not possible to use the WWW class. I am trying to use the Android StorageManager, but when I try to mount the OBB I keep getting an ERROR_INTERNAL in the callback (details of this API here: http://developer.android.com/reference/android/os/storage/StorageManager.html.)

I was hoping someone in the Unity dev team could comment on how the WWW class accesses these resources so I can replicate the process in my plugin.
