Quad texture showing in inspector, but not on object itself.

Hi, I'm quite new to Unity, and as I was following the Space Shooter tutorial (https://unity3d.com/learn/tutorials/projects/space-shooter-tutorial ), I discovered that as I was adding a texture to the quad I was using as a background, the quad would not change appearance, even though in my inspector it said that the texture was added. I have no idea what was going on. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

 I have the same issue (texture seen in editor [element 0] but not on quad) in a different situation. Hope someone answers this!

P.S. Found out the reason within five $$anonymous$$utes - Scene view was in wireframe mode. Silly me!
