Echolocation in 2D top down game
Hello. For Global Game Jam, my team and I are making a game where you play as a little blind girl trapped in a murderer's house. She has to escape using echolocation. The biggest problem I have is how to implement the echolocation mechanic as it's a 2D top down game, a la Hotline Miami. I was thinking of using lighting where, as you hold down the space bar, the dark environment lights up, allowing you to see the black outline of whatever harzards are around you. When you release the space bar, the light slowly fades, leaving you back in the dark. Could someone show me how to implement this feature, or if there is a better way to implement? Any help will be appreciated!
