If you have Windows installed via Bootcamp then it'll work just fine. I did that for a while. However, if you intend to build anything for the App Store (E.g. iPhone, Mac OSX, etc..) then I recommend you do one of two things:

  1. Use Unity with Visual Studio Code. It's not as easy to setup as Monodevelop (it comes with Unity) but it's worth it. It has support for debugging C# scripts and full intellisense support.

  2. Do what I do, use a Windows system for your development and build for iOS on my Macbook. From Unity on Windows I build my iOS game to a folder which I map to (using cifs:///ios) on my Mac. I then build that using XCode. This process has been working well for me for the last year.

Unfortunately- Visual Studio doesn't run on Mac OS- you probably have Visual Studio Code which is like a lite version- Visual Studio Tools only work with the full version that's only available on Windows at this time.
