Name collision in forum area

Hi. Sorry if this is not the right place.

I registered my name and account yesterday and everything works fine in the "Answers" area. But when i click on "Forums" i get the following error:

Unity Community - Error User names must be unique. The specified user name is already in use.

I'm a little confused. If "Answers" and "Forums" share the same nickname space, why could i register this name? And if not, why do i get this error?

Unity Forums is older than Unity answers, and uses a different system. I don't think they really share usernames. There's just a little code that tries to give you the same username for both, and log you into both.

Probably this first doublemax was using the forums way back, before UA even existed, and has never used UA, so never got the name created here.

In theory, creating an account on one should also search the other for that name and tell you if it's taken. But that's probably a pain, and maybe not that big a problem. I think most people use only Forums or only UA. And your points don't follow between them, even if you have the same name. I'd say just write your UA name in your information in the forums, and vice-versa, and you won't be missing anything.

Thanks for the reply. But the problem is i can't access the forums at all. I get this message every time, no matter where i go. Even if i log out of UA. The name is probably stored in a cookie, the forum tries to perform an auto-login and then i get the error. I my book that's a bug that should be fixed :)

Guess i have to block the use of cookies on this site. Quite inconvenient.

The problem may be related to cookies, but not because of the name-conflict. Other people are having a similar problem, in a thread a little lower down: http://answers.unity3d.com/questions/1225951/cant-log-in-1.html

The linked Forum thread (which you can read while not logged in, I think?) seemed to have more info.
