Clearify: Which moderator task can be done at what reputation level? What's the difference between spaces?
Hi guys, I recently stumbled across the problem that I don't know if it is a bug that I can't lock comments in the Help room or that I don't have enough reputation yet.
I am able to see the option to lock comments in the moderator space tough..is there a different ranking of tasks?
I want to be able to lock comments on closed offtopic/duplicate questions to avoid them pop up in the news feed on the front page. I don't know about the rest, but I find that particulary annoying.
Is it possible to make this list more transparent or update the one in the moderator guidelines page?
Cheers
I've never understood why people here Close or Lock things. In stackOverflow, good, solved Qs are closed when every possible answer has been written, and bad answers and off-topic junk start appearing.
I don't know anything about how the Help Room works, but I'm pretty sure there will be another moderator who notices comments getting locked for no reason and unlocks them. Sure, do whatever unilateral stuff you feel like, but at least a thread on Help Room policy might be called for.
Like I said, mainly to avoid them pop up in the news feed on the front page. But also to avoid having people create discussions which don't belong here. If I close an offtopic Q I don't get how people are still able to answer and comment it sometimes. Which has definitely happened more than once.
Please don't get me wrong here, I don't want to do brainless closing and locking everywhere, only when things get out of hand, in other words become offtopic or rude.
So you don't know about any reputation level differences regarding the spaces? $$anonymous$$aybe it is a bug then?
PS: Another reason for closing a Q came to recent public awareness because it seems that some moderators publish every question lately.
It makes sense in this case to close those questions immediately and maybe lock comments to avoid offtopic Q's being discussed, doesn't it?
New questions which are Unity/gamedev related and don't otherwise belong in the default room should be moved to the help room. There are definitely one or more mods that are just publishing everything in the default area rather than moving things to the help room, which is kind of annoying, but without input from the Unity folks there's not much to do about it except move them when we see them.
No one can tell me if this is intended or a bug?
@SaraCecilia maybe?
