Android optimal texture/sprite size, 2048 or 512?
Hey everyone.
So I've checked through the forums and the answers all differ, so I'm not exactly clear on this. I have an image in Illustrator with a resolution of 2048x1424, which is exported as a PNG into my Unity Android project imported as a sprite. From what I've read, textures of this size don't perform overly well on mobile devices.
An alternative I've considered is slicing the image in Illustrator into 4 separate files of 1024x712 and just placing them adjacent to each other to form the desired image.
From what I understand though, this will increase the draw calls, as there would be 4 images to render rather than just one.
Can anyone tell me which option would be better, and why? Or alternatively, any additional options?
