Humanoid Animations

Alright, setting an imported animation to Humanoid is easy - just go to the model's Rig tab on the import settings and set the avatar. And Unity has the function to create animations inside the editor, .anim files! Problem is that there doesn't seem to be any user-friendly way of setting such animations to Humanoid, for use in Mecanim. I've gone to the Debug version of the Inspector and found nothing but a boolean to set the animation to Legacy or Generic, but nothing on Humanoid. Is there even a way to do it?
