Unity re-importing small assets every time I click back into window
I'm having an inconvenient issue that occurs every time I click out of the Unity editor into a different application, and then clicking back into Unity. Whenever I click back into Unity, it re-imports the project's small assets. This wouldn't be an issue if it didn't take so long! Is there any way to keep Unity from doing this?
P.S. I am not saving the project every time I click into Unity; I noticed that was an issue for others, but it's not the issue for me.

Do you by chance have the project stored on a network drive or a flash drive? If either of these are the case, then the slower read speed hinders Unity's check for updated meta files. Moving the project to the local disk ought to speed things up.
I do have it on a flash drive, I'll move the project back on the local disk and check back.
This does work; I'll just have to make sure to backup my projects regularly now.
