Question by Raborick · Jul 08, 2014 at 07:08 AM · materialimportingblender-exporting

How to fix fbx texture problem?

I made a room in blender and applied a single brick material to the whole thing. It is just a brick picture. I used this video http://cgcookie.com/unity/2011/12/05/exporting-characters-from-blender/ to learn how to import the textures and fbx into unity. Whenever i apply the material to the the thing i made it is just a solid dark gray color. It does not have any of the tiles or textures or anything of the material. I have even tried importing random pictures and apply them to see if they work, but it just puts a random dark solid color on there. It is just completely different. I have searched on this for hours, and it is starting to really frustrate me. If there is a way to make it display my material, I would really love it. I am not the best with Unity. I am still learning it. If it is something I am skipping or complicated please explain. It does this with any fbx I import from blender.

Could you show us a screenshot of the problem?

There are a few possible causes and solutions for your issue.

First, make sure that you have a light source (ex: directional light).

Second, in what is your model extension? .fbx?

.fbx is one of the best choices for unity but try to save your model in .3ds format. That will allow you to better manage the texture that you want to give to your object (in some cases) . You just have to drag the texture to the little boxes in the right side of the unity windows.

Follow those steps and see if it works. It would be very nice if you could show us a screenshot of the problem (the grey object in unity).

I hope that i could help,
