Assembly.Load on iOS

Hi Guys,

Is there a way to get Assembly.Load working on iOS.

I know iOS is AOT and does not allow dynamic code generation. Just wanted to check if there is a workaround. ANY way at all to do this.

Basically I'm trying to see if AngryAnt's hydra scrips (http://angryant.com/2010/01/05/downloading-the-hydra/) work on iOS

I'm trying to find a way to update the contents of my app without updating to iTunes app store all the time. I'm planing to do this using Asset bundles. But since I can't have executable code in asset bundles, I was thinking of using hydra like system. If I can get Assembly.Load working on iOS

Thanks.

Apple does not allow for dynamic code in the app store. The only way around this is to use scripting that is interpreted such as lua or javascript and it should never be compiled to bytecode during runtime. Even then I've heard of rejected apps.

The purpose of this is to keep apps from by-passing their review process or introducing malicious code.

The iOS developer program agreement section 3.3.2 reads (in part) as follows:

An Application may not download or install executable code. Interpreted code may only be used in an Application if all scripts, code and interpreters are packaged in the Application and not downloaded.

Hi thanks for the reply. Do you have any examples of those kind of apps that got banned because they used an interpreted scripting language like lua. Some developer posts and such.

And secondly, if I explain all this ahead of time when I submit to apple. Will they still ban my app? I know you can't speak for apple, but in your honest opinion, what would they say.

They will reject your app if you tell them up front.

They will ban your app if they find it.

They are not flexible about their rules.

Added a quote from the iOS developer program agreement that should answer your questions.

And no they won't ban you. You'll just get rejected in the review process.

Thanks IsaacP. I think I have to give up on dynamically updating content of the app and just use apple update process as you would do normally.
