Will unity continue to use mono develop into the future (2017+)
Hi I'm just starting to learn to use unity 3d, and found out that Xamarin, who develop mono develop have been taken over by Microsoft (march 2016). I am wondering if unity and mono develop will continue to remain free to use for indie development, and if mono develop will continue to be supported as the free IDE within unity, or if unity will eventually move onto a newer version of Xamarin studio. I am asking because we are attempting to start a small two person team, using free and open source, industry standard design and development software, of which unity will be our games engine. We plan on purchasing the licenses for releasing to multiple platforms once we have saved enough money to do so and finished our first title. I'd really like to know if we are going to have to find more money for a xamarin subscription just to develop in a pro-am capacity, or if mono develop will continue to be supported within the unity game engine as the main IDE. The reason I ask is that we are currently working hard with no capital funds or start-up overheads, and we need to know if we will have to buy Xamarin licenses to develop for IOS and Android using unity, if Xamarin doesn't continue to support the free version of mono develop for unity
Thanks
