Rts game. 2d unit on 3d scene
Hello everyone, I decided to ask a rather interesting question. In the future I will make a game with the RTS team, but there was a question about the performance during mass wars (about 5000-15000 units on the screen). There is such a feature, but not on the unit, but in another game released 14 years ago. What is the whole point? I need the 2D unit to be displayed in the 3D scene, given that when the camera is rotated (flying around the unit) it is also displayed. This is a translation of a 3D model into 2D when rendering from 16 sides, in any 3D model editor. And then, by some miracle, we pack these images into one and get the displayed 2D model in 3D space. No matter how you go around this model, it will be displayed on either side. This is a good technology for massive battles. As an example, Cossacks 2, where this technology is present. Can this be done in Unity? With understanding - BiSEC
