Can't see gameObject with animation

I have just a camera in my scene. I add an empty game object and drag some sprites onto it to create an animation (the pop up comes up and asks me to save). But I can't see the game object in the scene view and when I click on the animation to double check it the preview in the inspector says 'No model is available for preview. Please drag a model into this Preview Area.' Right now I just have a game camera and a game object that I can't see.

Any ideas on how I can see my game object and animation preview?
