Can you sell what you make from Unity 2 basic? Or can you only do that in pro?

Unity (not Pro) is free for commercial and personal use, so yes you can sell whatever you create with Unity. However, if you had a turnover in excess of US$100,000 in the last fiscal year, you will need to purchase Unity Pro.
Check the license comparison page for more detail what differences exist.
If you can wait there is a Holiday Sale (- 20%) from UT at the and of the year (at least in 2008 and 2009).
Hell if i made 100K in one year I would buy 5 copies of unity and use them as coasters ........
