Outer glow (outline) on a Text Mesh
I need arbitrary strings rendered with strong colored outline (I use glow for outline).
I figured out a couple of ways of doing that, but still not really satisfied.
My first take was to create an atlas (using zwoptex) per color/outline color, and to use a custom script to render arbitrary strings given an atlas of character textures. This works just fine but is too much of a trouble (as I need 4 styles now and the colors are subject to changes).
Now I'm trying to use 3D Text with a font asset (Create Editable Copy -> Add glow to texture in photoshop). Still no luck, the texture gets mangled and renders in the wrong way.
So, my questions are:
is there any other way around?
any advices on using technique 2?
upd: Just figured out what was wrong with my font texture. I didn't set up texture compression properly after having edited it. Anyway, I can't get it working: all effects I have in the texture get overriden by TextColor setting of a font asset...
upd2: So, what I came up with is using Font setter-packer plugin. The tool is nice (packer fails, but it's not a big deal). I'd rather use bmfont with bmGlyph app for font rasterization, as it uses font kernings properly, but I failed to find scripts that support this format apart from those included in NGUI framework.
