Question by tyson · Apr 10, 2011 at 12:35 PM · meshmultipleinvisiblecomputer

Mesh displaying on one computer but not another?

I have a mesh being generated in realtime.

I set the vertices, triangles and normals of the mesh, have it in a visible layer, have a meshFilter and meshRenderer correctly loading it.

On my desktop computer the mesh displays properly.

On my laptop it does not (it doesn't appear at all).

Same settings/files on both computers. Same result (displays on one but not the other) in both the Editor and WebPlayer after a build.

I ran a debug session and found that my laptop is indeed generating the correct triangles and verts. The only difference is that it's not displaying them.

Is there anything in particular that could be causing this?? Is there some hardware-specific mesh functionality I should be aware of?

Bump! I have this exact same problem, except that it's the other way around, I can see them on my laptop (after setting dynamic batching off), but not on my desktop regardless of dynamic batching settings. I have looked into every possible explanation I can think of and this smells like an outright bug, and really hinders the development of my project currently :(

I would blame it on the driver out of experience , ensure they are up to date.

unless you have some of those funny "cool noob tools" installed that reskin the os and alike, which normally mess in the window handling and other aspects and backfire for game devs commonly.

The laptop on which everything worked is actually pretty ancient, the latest drivers years old, while my desktop is a high-end and up to date ga$$anonymous$$g station. I intend to target the game for relatively low-end computers and non-gamers as well, so basic rendering just randomly not working is not really an option, latest drivers or not...

And no, I don't have "cool noob tools" installed. However, the laptop runs WinXP while the desktop has W7 with Aero, and disabling Aero didn't change anything :)

I'm running on W7 64 myself, so I doubt that would cause it.

Does your desktop have specific driver features always enforced ins$$anonymous$$d of having them set to "let the application decide"?

and I assume we talk about a standalone player right?

I tried looking into the driver settings, but everything seems to be "let application decide", and I haven't touched any of them to begin with. The problem is the same when running in the editor and in standalone.

I had a similar problem. The mesh would show up in the editor but not in the build. Select the mesh and make sure "update when off screen is checked". Hopefully this will help.

Thanks for the suggestion, but that option is only available on the Skinned $$anonymous$$esh Renderer, and at least I am using the normal $$anonymous$$esh Renderer as the objects are meant to be static. I'd like to hear if that works for the original poster though?
