How do/should I make my character jump?
Should I animate his jump in Blender, such as moving him up on the Z axis, or should I code it in?
Well not much info to go but I guess if you're using blender then it's likely to be a 3D model. I'm guessing third person if you're going to the trouble of modelling a character.
Really it's likely you'll need both if I'm right. Play the animation of raising legs and arms (like we do when we jump) and add force to the rigidbody based on jump height and forward momentum. You may well want more than one jump animation depending on standing still or moving. Or you could look on the asset store and see if there are any animations that suite your needs. You can retarget them with mecanim.
