Best resources for top down environment tile creation?
Hey guys. I'm working on a top down Zelda style action adventure game in 3d. As I learn, I've come to the conclusion that I need to work with some kind of tile based workflow for the environments. As the game I am creating is an oldschool style game inspired by the 16 bit classics, I realize I can emulate that type of overhead view in my environments.
Here's a rough mockup of what I am trying to do:
Finding tutorials for this is a bit tricky, as most of them are for 2d games, not 3d. A few tutorials out there use a 3rd party program like Tiled, but I would like to know a good workflow for making tiles in general as it is still a bit unintuitive for me.
I am also looking to use a workflow like this program (which is super neat looking btw: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N8Mxoofks_Y)
Any pointers would help greatly.
