Can Unity 3D detect hand movements from a web cam?

I would like to know whether Unity 3D can detect Hand Movements using a web camera. If Unity 3D can't do this by it self, then any other 3rd party library or something which we can attach with Unity 3D? I need to make a game which I can play with my hand movements, rather than pressing keys on keyboard.

It can't. But there is a lot of stuff out there on the internet. Just googled "webcam hand gesture recognition library" and got tons of results...

This one has some interesting looking links.

Emgu CV looks interesting too.

There is some JavaScript handtracking tool too.

And of course there's kinect, but you need the 3d sensor.

The case is, I need to use this feature with Unity game engine. I have seen some gamed developed with this engine, which does what I explained

So, why don't you investigate further into those solutions? Try to find out how those games were made (they probably use some of the libraries of the answer).

You asked if Unity can track hands. The answer is no, it can't. Are there any libraries that can do that? Yes, the ones I pointed in the answer (and probably some more libraries) can do it. But from my experience (mostly with kinect, as I never used the other solutions) I can tell you it's not a plug and play thing. You have to delve a bit into those libraries to know how to use them. It's not hard, but it isn't a full features coding in 5 $$anonymous$$utes thing either. (and it'll take you some time to integrate them with Unity)

As I said, it looks like many people are using AForge.NET and OpenCV. Just navigate through the answers I linked.

The LeapMotion Sensor could be something you're interested in: https://www.leapmotion.com/ They have an API for Unity too.
