What would be a good file format for dynamically creating levels?
I am working on a 2D project with the intention of it being on the mobile platform (android and/ or ios) that's like a crazy taxi meets space invaders that would have a story mode with a zone-level organization; I was thinking that instead of manually creating a scene for each level, I would have one scene with a component capable of parsing data in for a specified zone and level.
My issue: I have no idea what would be the good file format for this, or if it is even worth it to do this. I was thinking it could be a .txt file. and I could write a parser script that would select the appropriate level data file and go from there.
I would consider the project to be simple, where the data that would be stored/read in is: 1. Which Environment 2. Enemy type or power up that should be spawned, 3. Where it should be placed (1 of 3-fixed x-coordinates) 4. When to spawn, I'm thinking basically a y-coordinate.
with this streamed in data, I would have a spawner instantiate and recycle gameobjects as needed.
Thank you.
