Cannot view anything in scene tab,Cannot see anything in scene tab

I cannot see my planets/terrain in my scene tab without the game running. For instance if the game isnt running all I can see is the ship I built here

However when I run the game it is visible (but I cannot edit anything) which is what I want to do.

I have already tried looking on the forums, tried changing my layers viewing to either all or default. I tried going to hierarchy and focusing on my terrain. None of that seemed to work. If anyone could help me out that would be greatly appreciated.
