Using Lightning to light up a dark 2d level
Hi Everyone,
So I have this idea for a 2d level that is pitch black with the level and character only being visible when lightning strikes. I have the level set up, but cant figure out how to make it pitch black (I know how to do this in 3d), and I don't know where to begin with using procedural lightning to light the level. I want the lightning to vary randomly between 5-10 seconds.
Thank you all your help and advice. I'm really excited to finish my first game.

The easiest way to light up the whole level is to go into "Edit > Render Settings" and to set up the ambient color to the one you wish. In your case that would be black color - meaning it will be completely dark if there are no lights/lightmaps or emissive materials in your scene.
Since you said you know how to do it in 3D I'm not sure if you already set the ambient light to black but the sky is making you problems. To fix this you can check the main camera and turn it's background color to black.
