How To Fix These Mesh Normal Errors?

Wondering if anybody knew about this and how to fix the issue?

Our character's mesh normals are not updating when it is being animated with bones. I new before that in the skinned mesh renderer there was an option to "skin normals". This is gone now, and I do not know if it is supposed to be automatically active or if there is another way to activate it now.

What is the answer on this one? Does Unity no longer support updating the normals on skinned meshes? I find that hard to believe. I'm manually driving bones to update a skinned mesh and when I do that, the normals are incorrect.
