How do I emulate Minecraft Redstone

I am trying to make a game like Minecraft, but morely focused on redstone like creation (where you can build crazy computer in side computer if you tried). I have a "clock speed" variable so that the blocks that send the power/signal only go off every X, and not constantly(it is currently set to 1 second). I don't need to "recieve", as I morely need to "send". I can think of how the scripting is when I have already grabbed the gameobject to a variable, but that is the problem mostly. I need to efficiently grab the needed gameobject- if any- and modify some variables on said gameobject's script. I have thought of using overlapbox or rayacst, but I feel those are going to become performance heavy when there are thousands of these items running in the game. ( I can easily grab the GameObject's vectors based on the "senders" point easily, if that will help)
