Mesh.uv assign in Unity 5.6 is 5x slower than in 5.5
After upgrading to Unity 5.6 my game went from about 60fps to 20fps on a level. I profiled this to be due to mesh.uv assignement (I'm animating characters by altering the uv map).
Any reason why it is so much slower in 5.6? I am looking for a work around, as I have little faith of this getting fixed soon.
