Shadow receiving problem

My custom material with custom shader does not receive shadows. After a number of ineffectual attempts, I have figured out that even example shown in Unity Manual (example's page) doesn't work for me. Other objects in the scene successfully cast and receive shadows.

I suppose that there is some problem in lighting settings, but I am unable to understand where.
