Wrong after Update?

if( Input.GetAxis("Fire1")) && cooldownTimer <= 0 ) { cooldownTimer = fireDelay;

It cant recognize && as a valid sign

Ok well without knowing what the error you're getting is (would really help if you posted that as well) The only thing I see in that code that looks particularly wrong is that your && operator is surrounded with ** on each side. But that might just be you trying to format it as bold on the post. Please post what error you are getting with this code if it is not this.

Hmm, you said "&&", so I assume this line here: if( Input.GetAxis("Fire1")) && cooldownTimer(

If this is the case, then I think its how you set it up, is wrong. You don't need the stars, and the rest of your statement after the && is outside your if (because its after the second bracket), so try something like:

if( Input.GetAxis("Fire1") && cooldownTimer

@Dibbie makes a good point, I didn't notice the scope issues as well, the semi colon in your if statement will definitely be causing problems.
