Getting back to monodevelop IDE from visual studio?
I got a new laptop, reinstalled unity 5.
Now in the Unity project window when I click on a c# file to edit visual studio comes up instead of monoidevelop.
I guess something about my new laptop changed the default editor.....? How can I go back to monodevelop being tne default editor?
$$anonymous$$onoDevelop is by default for Unity so you need to go Preferences/External Tool and external script editor. On windows I think it is in Edit.

In Unity, go to Edit > Preferences > External Tools, and choose MonoDevelop in the External Script Editor drop down menu.
I did this and now no IDE opens up. Is there a way to force this back (Unity 5.5.0f3)?
Have you checked that $$anonymous$$onoDevelop is working if you run it on its own? (and if it is, can it open the solution file for your project?)
It's not clear from what you've said whether the problem is with Unity's launching of $$anonymous$$D or with $$anonymous$$D itself.
$$anonymous$$ay be your firewall is blocking monodevlop
