Wind zones unable to create waves rolling through foliage? Cant be!
Hello. I am completely baffled by the fact that it seems to be impossible to have windzones simply create wind "waves". It would have to be a directional wind zone with a range and width.
Animating the normal directional zones affects every mesh instantly with the same amount of wind, which is also very unrealistic to begin with but it looks okay if the settings are low.
I tried it with an array of spherical windzones, that move over the ground in a straight line, but that looks awful and wrong since they push the meshes away in every direction, not just the "wind" direction. It looks more like something invisible is moving through the bushes.
It seems the tree creator lacks a bit of current-generation funtionality.
What should i do? Any help would be much appreciated!
Edit May 2016: Moved to Help. It seems that this is really only achievable via vertex shaders or similar cg effects..most of the asset store "realistic" foliage entries are out of the window because they either bring the FPS down from +300 to ~40 in an empty scene or they have no actual bending solution.
The Tree Creator 3x libraries seem to be fixed for certain tasks and won't allow drastic changes like effect area or multiple effect directions.
YES we need this! I looked at your profile when you gave me your shader codes and I see this question and I have SA$$anonymous$$E problem again! :D This is strange wind in Unity engine.
I'm glad you see it the same way. I wanted to create my own "Wind Zone" component to use in the Editor but after searching the internet it seems you can't just copy and edit Unity's components like shaders.
I might have to write a plugin or another CG Wind function and another leaves shader to receive that wind ins$$anonymous$$d of the Untiy Wind.
I don't know how to write shader or cg or plugin ^^ I hope you can do it so we have good wind in Unity!
