Question by Le-Pampelmuse · Oct 20, 2015 at 11:52 PM · shadersshadownotleavesreceive

Tree Creator shaders only receive shadows from directional lights! Scene looks terrible with lights.

Hello again, as I am desperately trying to figure out how to fix this , I thought it would be a good idea to deploy the question here.

I searched the available questions already and only found a similar one from 2011 that was never answered,

Maybe anyone here knows a solution.

Here is the problem: I created the first outdoor scene in my game, and I really love the simple front-end they made to the Tree Creator. I got some nice trees and bushes and grass and they surprisingly really look good in the dim moonlight. Soft shadows and all that.
BUT!
As I dont want my character to wander blindly through the scene, I gave him a lighter. The problem begins.

The leaves from the trees don't receive any shadows from meshes or other leaves which are cast by point or spot lights. Trees cast shadows perfectly onto other trees or bushes.
But only the bark materials (stumps, twigs) receive other shadows.

I made a demo scene for you to look into it: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/w0n733l1r92v4m1/AAAuoZJWHwsI5ilWOtXgqDxaa?dl=0

Thanks.

Hello Le I just have the same problem. Can you share your shader? I really need it in my video game project.

I finally got sick of seeing shader solutions on the asset store that cost about 50$ that are capable of receiving shadows because this is nothing special or exclusive at all and nothing to brag about as well.

I wrote my own shader based on the built-in nature/leaves shader. Works perfect and looks great. Shadows everywhere!

Yes of course, I already uploaded them to my Dropbox: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/q3m8dn8rhkvjdq1/AAAWW$$anonymous$$RV97Xgc8-_xLhn$$anonymous$$Qgqa?dl=0

Just drag them into your Assets folder and you can use them. If you run into any problems, just ask me.

Hi, I would like to include your shader in a commercial asset pack if it's all right by you, please ping me about this when you can. If you won't answer in time, I'll simply leave the shader out and give people a link to this page.

No problem, it's free, if it got to the asset store, I would have set it to free as well. ;)

If you do include my stuff or others, just make sure to keep a record of the authors who contributed to your pack, and mention them/me in the description. Good day!

Sure thing, I will put a .txt next to the shaders and mention you in the pack description + a link to this topic.

This is exactly what I'm looking for. It's been years but the shared still looks terrible in point or spot light. Your Dropbox link is no longer valid thought. Have you put your shared on the store for download?
