Two Player character select screen help please

Ok so I'm having an issue with a character select screen. I have a two player game and each player has the option to choose between the characters. The character selection works well, but my problem is when either player chooses a character the game automatically starts without the other player being able to choose a character. Does anyone know how to fix this?
