Google SketchUp and Unity: How to avoid performance issues?

Hi!

Before posting here, I've read some of the other posts about using SketchUp with Unity, but I couldn't find the right answer for my question. The question is what exactly are the problems with using SketchUp and Unity and how to avoid/solve them?

My situation

I've been working on a 3D model of my own house in Google SketchUp for the past few years when I had free time. It was like a a hobby to me. Now that I'm learning Unity and coding, I would love to use that model to add interactivity to it. Sort of simulation of my real house. But then I saw a few posts about SketchUp being a problem for Unity and I just can't finish the model without knowing if I have any chances to make it as I planned and don't run into a bunch of performance issues in my game later.

My question

So, how can I avoid performance issues using SketchUp with Unity? If I can finish the model in SketchUp and then import it to another 3D modelling software to texture it in there for use in Unity, will it solve the performance issues?

P.S.:

Please, don't tell me to use Blender or any other software to re-create the model from scratch. I'm ready for ANY solution but the model must be finished in SketchUp. This model is VERY important to me.

By the way, the model creation was started in older versions of SketchUp.

Thanks to everyone who's going to come up with good news.
