Help on Meshes

Hello everyone,

I want to implement something similar to this video. I have mesh for whole wax and wax sticks. I think I have to find some part of wax mesh and change colors of mesh but I am not sure if I will be able to have animation something like in the video. I just need ideas or directions to implement this. Appreciate for any help.
