How to make a drawing look better?
Hi All,
I've been working on my game now, which will be a free demo of sorts, and I'm not amazing at creating art, but I've been doing pretty decent as of now.
I'm now putting a few finishing touches on the gameplay as well as the art but I'm not sure on how to make my drawings look more professional per say.
Does anyone have any tuts or advice on making my pic below look more like an artist drew it/ bring it to life as it looks a little flat?
Thanks Thomas

Hi there,
unfortunately I don't think there is a general tutorial for making better artworks as it boils down to one simple factor: practice. As frustrating as this might sound for you now, keep in mind that this is part of all creative arts. I can't offer you any tutorials but in this case I guess crits & comments are way more helpful.
First off all, I don't think this is bad game art. The feeling of it being flat comes from the missing shading. Add light and shadows to it and it would feel more like an object with depth. Use references of artworks that you like and try to analyze why you like them and what makes them work. I'd start with adding light, shadows and color variations (instead of the flat colors).
Thanks Yellow,
Yeah crits are great, and I'll look into shading a bit more, hopefully bring it to life :).
What are you referring to with color variations compared to flat colors? Is this just variations as in gradients and shading etc?
His arms and legs are just plain blue right now for example. Yes gradients could work, but I was more thinking of adding details (maybe fur) and general shading :)
I'll give it a go when I finish work and I'll post my progress if that's okay :D Thanks
