Mopub ad banner coming up even when hidden

We have a Mopub banner in our game. We hide it when the top menu bar is shown. However when the ad tries to refresh when in hidden state, it comes right back on. Is there a way that we can make it hide or not refresh, so that it never becomes visible ?
