[Meta] Can line#s be displayed in the Mod queue?
Posts in mod queue usually have code with some comment like "I need help on line 64" -- but unless there's some option that I've accidentally disabled in my personal prefs, there are no line numbers displayed when looking at code in Mod queue. Can that be changed? I know the #s appear once it's published but would be nice to see line#s in mod queue.
Why would this be helpful? If it's a appropriate Q, publish it and reply. Edit if needed. I can't think of a case where I was deciding whether to publish a Q and needed to check a line #.
Sounds like this is for using the $$anonymous$$od Q as a short-time help room? But aren't we really, really supposed to discourage that?
I don't see the point in publishing a question that can be resolved in the mod queue with a simple "the error you referenced on line XX is fixed by (....)"
Ah...take a look at the $$anonymous$$oderator guidelines. Under "Debugging Qs" it suggests you NOT answer, but ins$$anonymous$$d guide them to general Learn to Program sections. Or, if you know of somewhere else appropriate (I had a guy claim Reddit has a Unity help room.)
The idea (which I feel also falls under "Promote Good Behavior from Users") is we can't have the main part of UA act as a help room -- the volume was killing us -- so we can't answer personal debugging Qs.
If we answer them in the $$anonymous$$od Q, the users are trained to keep co$$anonymous$$g back with Qs like that. And will ask more. And will eventually get enough $$anonymous$$arma to post straight to UA. And other angry users complain to the paid staffers "why was my Q rejected when all these similar Qs weren't?"
There are more examples of why the line #s is handy too, not just that one example. I'm satisfied with Harshad$$anonymous$$'s answer.
UA is meant to be Searchable. If you see a unique Q, think of everyone else who might find it. Often the OP will Accept a very limited work-around, or a complete swerve. Don't worry about it. There are Qs where the Accepted Answer has 1 checkmark, but another answer has 50+ checks.
Of course, most Qs will clearly never come up in a Search. But if you think you have something to add to an interesting Q, or even a better answer, go ahead and post it. Again, think what you'd want to see if you found that Q in a search.

No, line numbers for code are not shown in mod queue and there is no option to show it either.
If you really want to see the line numbers then you can open that question in a new tab since line numbers are only shown when the question is shown on its details page.
Thanks, that's entirely sufficient didn't know about that tip.
