Unity freezes when closed, reinstalling doesn't help

When I go to close Unity 4.3.4, it will freeze and not respond. I am forced to open task manager and kill it manually. Afterwards, it will not open at all, prompting an error box stating "Unity editor has stopped working." I have uninstalled and reinstalled it in the past, but now it will not reopen when re-installed. What can I do? Is this a known/common issue?
