Casting spotlights on terrain without grid-lighting grass billboards
I'm experimenting with an outdoor scene that includes a day/night animated directional light for the sun, and a number of vehicles with spot lights for headlights.
The issue I am running into is that after dark, unlit terrain grass is quite dark as it should be - unless it is near a spotlight. Terrain grass near any low-range point of spot light sources is illuminating in unsightly "grids" - see attached image for an example. These grids snap between light an dark as each vehicle moves around, breaking the immersion of the scene. I would gladly use a culling mask to prevent spotlight illumination of the terrain vegetation, but this is unfortunately preventing illumination of the underlying terrain as well.
I've tried every possible combination of lighting and terrain vegetation settings, but these lighting artifacts persist. Has anyone encountered a potential solution?
