Maya to Unity issues with materials
Hello.
Recently I started to create my assets with Maya 2016 and then send them to Unity 5 but have a couple of problems in regards to the materials:
In Maya 2016, I create a mesh and assign it a blinn or lambert material with a name but if I also assign a diffuse texture, the material name is overwritten with the name of the texture once imported into Unity 5. Since I use the same texture for various objects but laid up different (hence my need for different material names even though the textures are the same), this change in the name of the material for the name of the texture is driving me nuts. The question is how to set Maya to send to Unity the name of the material instead of the name of the texture?
Thank you for your input.
You can adjust unity's material import settings by selecting the model in the inspector, opening the model tab (model/rig/animation), and there is a material na$$anonymous$$g option near the bottom.
