From there, a user can decide which are of most interest and follow a link directly to the entry.

What is RSS, exactly?

Without getting technical, RSS is content publishing.

You know how news organizations use services like the Associated Press to run articles from other newspapers? That's syndication. Such a system allows a single newspaper to take content from all over the world and publish it in one convenient location for its readers.

RSS is the same basic principle applied online, where professional websites and independent weblogs publish an infinite amount of content every day. Instead of scanning a dozen websites for your daily news fix, imagine bringing their content automatically to your computer. By using an RSS reader (or "news aggregator"), this is not only possible but extremely easy.

If you're still not convinced, think of it as an email program for news: you could log in to three separate webmail accounts, or check all three at once with a single application on your computer. And if you're still not convinced, don't use them! We don't really care how you organize your time and frankly we'd rather have you around anyway!
