Biography
April 6 was the release date of Peter´s first original music in seven years with the single “The Mask”! The song is written by Peter together with Tobias Fröberg, Kathryn Williams and Tobias Karlsson (MXM Music) who is also the producer of the track. A music video accompanies the single – recorded in The Bronx with dancers and choreographers from New York. The upcoming album will be released after the summer and just in time for the opening of his show “Med Hjärtat Som Insats – His Greatest Show” at Cirkus, Stockholm. This is Peter’s first one-man show in a set venue in 20 years and will premier 20 th of September.
2018 Peter was hand picked by Cameron Macintosh, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Hal Prince to carry the mask of The Phantom for the 30th anniversary of The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway. On the special anniversary night, Peter performed the encore with original ‘Christine’ Ms Sarah Brightman and he performed a limited run of the show until March 31st.
Peter Jöback is one of Sweden’s most prolific and respected artists. He was the first European actor to mantle the prestigious role as the Phantom of The Opera on Broadway 2013 since the original cast. Peter, who arrived on Broadway after a successful run as the Phantom in London’s West End, is one of four actors in the world having played the role on both sides of the Atlantic with huge success.
After two successful runs as The Phantom in London’s West End and Broadway NYC, Peter brought this iconic musical home to Stockholm for two limited and completely sold-out seasons at Cirkus arena. After finishing The Phantom, Peter then hosted the biggest musical concert ever; his concept I Love Musicals at Ullevi football stadium in Gothenburg. He created this concept 2012 with a sold-out arena tour in Scandinavia, featuring Stockholm Sinfonietta and guest performers from Broadway and the West. The 2013 version of this concept was an even bigger success and the “I Love Musicals” tour 2015 broke records in Scandinavia! In July 2016 Peter brought the success to Japan and with his “I Love Musicals” concept did two sold-out Nippon Budokan arena in Tokyo with featured guests Ramin Karimloo, Norm Lewis and Sierra Boggess.
When Peter arrived on Broadway 2013 it was at the height of a long and successful career in Scandinavia, where he is one of the most prolific and well-respected artists. His albums have sold over 1 million copies, including the best selling Swedish albums of 2006 and 2008, and he has been nominated for three Swedish Grammy Awards. Peter’s music transcends genres and he records both in English and Swedish. One of his most recent albums, “La Vie, L’Amour, La Mort”, consists of original material and classic French chansons, while its predecessor, “East Side Stories”, is a personal selection of modern classics. The album was recorded in Woodstock and includes duets with Sia Furler and iconic singer Kate Pierson of the B-52’s. Peter’s versatility is also apparent in his vibrant stage presence. In addition to performing in musicals, he has done countless tours in great variety of constellations – from intimate shows with an acoustic trio and concerts with a full band to extravagant performances with symphonic orchestras.
Always seeking new challenges, Peter has moved successfully between musical genres on stage and on record, and transitioned seamlessly into film and television. Peter has been awarded two Swedish Tony Awards; for creating Robert in Bjorn Ulvaeus’ and Benny Andersson’s original musical “Kristina” and for playing the Emcee in “Cabaret”. Two of Peter’s TV specials have been nominated for the Silver Rose at the Rose d’Or Global Entertainment Television Festival in Montreux, including the mini-series “With the heart at stake”, which was conceptualized and produced by Peter. The album “La Vie, L’Amour, La Mort” was accompanied by a 30-minute film, which showed off Peter’s considerable acting skills. As with all of his shows and TV productions, Peter was at the helm of the creative production of the film. Peter also performed at the concert before Crown Princess Victoria’s wedding 2010 and in June 2013 year Peter performed at the royal wedding of H.R.H. Princess Madeleine of Sweden and Mr. Chris O’Neill, in a ceremony which was broadcast live on many European and international networks. Immediately after the ceremony he returned to New York toperform the Phantom’s title song at the 67th Annual Tony Awards ceremony in honor of the Phantom’s 25th anniversary on Broadway.
September 2013, Peter returned to Sweden to follow up the success with I Love Musicals with another arena tour and a studio album with the same name. “I Love Musicals – The Album” was released mid September and went straight to #2 on the Swedish album chart. Recorded in Benny Andersson’s studio with Stockholm Sinfonietta, conductor David White and guest appearances by Ma-Anne Dionisio and Katy Treharne. A grand album with fifteen songs from various musicals such as; The Phantom of the Opera, Cabarét, Jesus Christ Superstar, Miss Saigon and Sound of Music. Stockholm Sinfonietta is ranked as one of the world’s leading chamber orchestras with musicians from the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and Royal Opera
In December 2013, Peter opened as Sweeney Todd in a highly praised production of the play at the Stockholm City Theatre and his run was completely sold-out.
Peter had a grand year in 2012, too. After starting the year off by performing at the 25th anniversary celebration of “The Phantom of the Opera” at London’s Royal Albert Hall, he played the Phantom for six months to sold-out houses. Directly following his run at the West End, Peter launched his arena concept “I Love Musicals” in Scandinavia to rave reviews. Christmas saw the release of Peter’s Christmas-themed book, which was based on his multiplatinum Christmas album. The album has received accolades such as “the ultimate Christmas album of all time”, and it still enters the charts before the holidays every year, a decade after it was released. It is the best-selling Christmas album of all time in Sweden.
2014 Peter made his Japanese debut as a guest star in the concert “Musical meets Symphony” in with Tokyo Symphony Orchestra. In connection with this Sony Music Japan released his album “I Love Musicals” which entered at No. 7 in the Japanese charts. After a sold-out run and a stellar performance in the role of “Sweeney Todd” 2014, Peter starred in a brand new musical “Livet är en schlager” to great critical acclaim and a huge audience. He also went back to London for three sold-out concerts at the St James’s theatre. With his concept “An evening with Peter Jöback” Peter introduced the UK audience to his pop catalogue with an intimate performance with his trio, showing his versatility as world class artist.
2015 he took his arena concept “I Love Musicals” to a new level and and broke attendance records in Scandinavia and Finland. 2016 he sold out Nippon Budokan in Tokyo with this concept and with the “I love musicals – Allstars”, Peter delivered the biggest musical concert ever at the Ullevi Football stadium in June 2017.
