Dolphin Math challenge

To promote problem solving skills and creativity in mathematics, we will be introducing a weekly Dolphin Math Challenge problem for everyone in our Lake community to solve. The problems will give opportunities to practice the Habits of Mind (thinking flexibly, thinking interdependently), engage in multiple solution methods, and provide access to problem solving for individuals with varying mathematical proficiency. No method is valued over another. Possible methods that lead to the same correct solution can often include: drawing a picture, creating a table, graph, equation, or even acting out a situation. Exploring the differences and similarities between methods is a strong way to develop the mathematical practices outlined in the Common Core.

Problems will be introduced weekly during the Dolphin Broadcast Monday, and solutions must be turned in to the front office by 2:30pm Friday. The current week's problem will always be posted here and paper copies will be available for pickup in the front office. Everyone in our Lake community can participate, and collaboration is highly encouraged! We love to celebrate the thinking of an entire family! Winners are announced during the Dolphin Broadcast. Next time you are in the front office, ask for the Dolphin Math Challenge problem and have fun!
