Today, this magnificent creature, the king of beasts, is fading from the wild. Lions remain in just 8% of their historical range. They are threatened by humans: habitat destruction from development and agriculture, poaching as a commodity and to protect livestock, and trophy hunting. A world without lions is a terrible but believable prospect.
